Sharing your location is a big ask, so here’s exactly what happens to it.
Who can see it
Only people in your family, and only while you share. Location travels to our database over an encrypted connection and is protected by rules that let only your family’s members read it. We don’t sell it, we don’t show ads, and the app contains no advertising or analytics libraries.
How long it’s kept
Your latest location is kept so your family can see where you are. Your trail, the points that make up your location history, is kept for 30 days and then removed. Viewing history is a Premium feature; the family owner decides whether everyone can see each other’s history or only their own.
Your switches
| Switch | What it does |
|---|---|
| Share my location | Turns sharing on or off. |
| Precision | Exact, or an approximate area rounded to about a mile. |
| Pause sharing | Stops updates for 30 minutes, an hour or 8 hours. |
| Update frequency | How often your phone sends a new position, from frequent to battery-saving. |
| Include my location | Decide per check-in whether to attach where you are. |
When a parent requires sharing
A family owner can ask a member to keep sharing on. That person can’t pause or blur sharing inside FamSpot, but they can still switch location off in iPhone Settings, and FamSpot tells the family when that happens. We think that’s the right balance: clear rules, no hidden tricks.
Deleting everything
